King's Church Lewes is a growing evangelical church community in East Sussex. They had an existing outdated site which worked, but the technical implementation was slow, hard to maintain, and required developer involvement for even basic content changes — a real problem for a team publishing weekly sermons, events, and news.

The site needed a complete technical rebuild changing the look and feel the team had already signed off. Behind that, the bigger challenge was the CMS: the previous system was difficult to use, so content updates were getting missed or delayed. The church team needed to be genuinely self-sufficient — able to publish a sermon, add an event, or update the homepage without phoning a developer.

I rebuilt the site from scratch using a modern stack optimised for performance, developing the site based on designs provided while replacing the technical foundation entirely. The CMS was chosen specifically for ease of use — structured content types for sermons, events, and news mean editors cannot break the layout even if they try.
// The outcome
The rebuilt site loads significantly faster than the original, scoring highly on Core Web Vitals across all pages. The team now publishes weekly updates independently — sermons, events, and news go live without any developer involvement. The church has full ownership of their online presence in a way they did not have before.
